Lightning + Startups
The odds of getting struck by lightning in a given year is 1 / 1,222,000.
But I think I could get hit if I wanted to. The highest concentration of lightning in the world is on a remote lake in Venezuela. There’s a recurring phenomenon where “lightning strikes Lake Maracaibo about twenty-eight times a minute for up to nine hours.” This article says September-October is the maximum season. I’d find a way there and go on the lake during each storm. And I’d probably get hit.

I think of startups like this. The odds of success are low, but I can increase my odds by being in the right environment for enough time. And if I get hit, it could be life-changing in a positive way.
Today, I think web3 is the lake in Venezuela. There’s major growth in unicorns, M&A, and job openings.
That said, bad things can also happen when you stand outside in a storm…
